I understand that LilTigger's crib was built using a bunkbed set as a starting point, so I went looking at bunkbeds...

I found this bunkbed set which I feel was just made to be a crib. I especially liked the curved tops on the ends. The other important feature was the fact that the construction was with 3/4" dowels, and I could turn some of them by hand so I knew they were glued and not nailed in place.
